It isn’t that often that an athlete achieves at the national level in two sports as different as high jumping and basketball.St. Stephen’s Sandra Barr was just such a performer than to the combination of natural talent and commitment, nurtured by the dedicated coaching of, among others, Duncan McGeachy and John Bell. Her resume lists six first place finishes in high jumping and ten championships as a high school, university and national basketball star.Everywhere she competed she was a winner- 5 high school provincial hoop titles, 4 intercollegiate championships at UNB, and 5 Canadian high jump records in a row! From Canada Games to Pan-American Games, to winner of the first-ever national indoor high jump championship, to selections as her high school and university “athlete of the year”, to her subsequent academic and research accomplishments as a professor of geology, hers has truly been an athletic and academic Hall of Fame career. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 4th, 2005.
