Biographie

He’s been called “a man for all seasons.”Complete with whistle and lanyard and striped jersey, you could find him officiating softball, baseball, hockey and basketball games locally, provincially, nationally and around the world almost from January to December. He crowded some 70 “seasons” of refereeing into a 38 year career that included assignments at Intercontinental Cup, world championships, Olympic, Allan and Hardy Cup, plus countless national championship events in all four sports, - and still found time to provide clinical and administrative leadership to officiating organizations at all levels.In 1982 he was selected as international umpire of the year at the world baseball championships in Seoul, Korea.And in Los Angeles in 1984 he was chosen to handle home plate or the bases in all key games including the gold medal final. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 1, 2002

  • National level official in basketball, baseball, hockey and softball 

  • Selected to work at 14 national basketball tournaments including the gold medal games at six of them 

  • In 30 years of baseball umpiring he has officiated at three Intercontinental Cups, three World Championships, the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, in addition to over 20 national championships 

  • Named an all-star umpire at the 1982 World Baseball Championships in Seoul, Korea 

  • Named International Umpire of the Year in 1982 

  • Refereed hockey for over 20 years, and was an on -ice official for four Hardy Cup championships and the 1992 Allan Cup championship 

  • In 22 years as softball umpire he worked several provincial championships and was selected to umpire at the 1984 Canadian Senior Championship 

  • Named New Brunswick Official of the Year in 1983
