Biographie

In 2003 the Sports Hall of Fame welcomed wrestling champion Michael Barry; tonight it salutes his equally successful brother Sean. Having qualified to represent Canada at the 1980 Olympics, his chance to excel on the world stage was nullified by the boycott of those Games. But this Saint John native compensated for this disappointment with his Intercollegiate, Canadian, World Cup, Pan-American Games, International, and World Championship accomplishments during his six-year elite competitive career. He too, was coached by Carl Schell, moved from judo to wrestling, and from Atlantic Canada to Ontario and the wrestling teams at Western and Lakehead universities. It has been said that both brothers consider the other as their toughest opponent.Could be… for both are “Hall of Famers.” Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 5th, 2004
