MEMBRE HONORÉ

Biographie

Moncton’s Lise Gautreau was introduced to the sport of rhythmic gymnastics in 1979;just nine years later she represented Canada at the Games of the XXIV Olympiad in Seoul, South Korea! Many believe that she should have achieved her Olympic dream four years earlier.Sadly, she was not chosen to represent Canada despite her second place finish at the Canadian Championships and her subsequent head-to-head successes against the two who were selected as Canada’s 1984 Olympians. Provincially, she won every event she entered but one - and that was a second place finish in her first senior competition. In 21 national meets she mounted the medal podium 18 times!Among her special honours was her selection as “the most promising athlete” at a 1984 international event in Moscow. Clearly her career at home and abroad was truly that promise fulfilled. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 5th, 1999
